We are extremely excited to announce that we have acquiried the Journey Planning business from Jeppesen, a division of Boeing, to help further our strategy to provide consumers a single source to plan and book rail journeys, anywhere in the world. As part of the acquisition, the team is expanding considerably, and we are thrilled to have them as part of our team moving forward.
November 19, 2013 – SilverRail Technologies, the developer of the first global transaction platform specialising in passenger rail, has acquired Jeppesen’s Journey Planning business and Integrated Public Transport Information System (IPTIS) solution. IPTIS is the leading rail search and journey planning tool in the UK market. The new SilverRail group will create an industry-first platform for travellers to plan and book complex rail trips, for example London to Madrid, in a single purchase. Further, the combination will deliver all the tools that rail carriers and travel retailers need to interact with their customers wherever, whenever and however they choose.
IPTIS, being sold by Jeppesen as it exits journey planning to focus in its core business, is the only independent search and journey planning system in the rail industry and powers over 75% of all UK rail searches. SilverRail’s global transaction platform connects to nearly a dozen rail carrier systems globally, and will allow the IPTIS product to deliver high performance, low cost, accurate search functionality to the passenger rail industry beyond the UK, and across all of Europe soon.
“This strategic acquisition is game-changing for the industry, as well as an excellent business and cultural fit,” said Aaron Gowell, SilverRail’s co-founder and CEO. “As an IPTIS customer ourselves, we know the team well and believe combining our vision to create air-like search and booking quality for rail, across regions and around the globe, will be seamless.”
“We’re extremely excited to be joining SilverRail,” agreed Francis Lee, GM of IPTIS, “because we will exploit their global rail content to extend our search and booking capabilities beyond our current markets. Joining an award-winning rail-specialist technology company as ‘core’ to their strategy makes this a very compelling time for our team and an innovative time for our industry.”
The new SilverRail group will include over 60 staff with operations in the UK, the USA and Australia.
