Air or rail - 3 key reasons why rail comes out ahead

Through extensive testing across multiple geographies, time frames and ticket types, we compared the prices, times and frequency of service for travelling by train versus flying, and even we were taken aback by the advantages that rail holds over air for short to mid-distance routes.
 
Flying was on average 2.2 times more expensive, took 10% longer, and was 24% less likely to have services within the hour of the desired travel time.

ebookers launches UK rail with no booking fees!

You may have seen in the press last week that our partner ebookers now offers rail via their UK site with no booking fee!  This is the first release in a long line of development for ebookers who are the first online travel agency in Europe to offer UK rail alongside a comprehensive list of products, including hotels and car rental.

Asian High-Speed Rail continues to accelerate

A lot of the focus here at SilverRail is on the European and North American rail markets. However, in terms of total rail use, they pale in comparison to some of the markets in Asia, with Japan alone accounting for about half the rail market size of Europe, as an example.

The sexy trains of tomorrow... floating, solar, unstoppable?

Over the summer, we had an intern join us in our London office to help us crystalize our vision around the future of the rail industry, over the course of the next decade.  Abigail Carlson, is now in her final year of studying for a degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics, and she did some great research on trends in the rail ticketing market, the planned high-speed rail routes across the globe, and also, the future of trains themselves.  Below is part 1 of a 2-part series on what passengers can expect as train technology moves into the 21st (and 22nd) century.

HRS High Speed Rail Line Launches Today

 China is by far the worlds leading country when it comes to High Speed Rail, with over 13,000km of track.  That number has increased today with the launch of a new line between Zhengzhou and Wuhan that has trains travelling at 350kph.  To read more about this new development, click here.

A good couple of weeks for high speed rail
