SILVERRAIL POWERS EXPEDIA’S MOVE INTO GLOBAL RAIL SALES
All of us at SilverRail are thrilled to announce our global partnership with Expedia, Inc today. We are now working alongside one of the world’s largest travel companies, helping it move into a new business stream – selling rail tickets.
We announced this news at Phocuswright US, where Expedia’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi spoke about the importance of rail in key markets and as a high frequency travel mode.
For the first time ever Expedia’s customers will be able to buy rail tickets across the world. This will enable Expedia to offer even more destinations to their customers than they ever have before, in fact, they will offer destinations on a scale not yet seen on any travel website.
This is great news for travellers. At SilverRail (and indeed Expedia), we have been watching rail increasingly dominate short to mid-haul travel throughout Europe and Asia. Not only does rail offer city-centre to city-centre access, but it’s also the greener more sustainable choice.
We have focused on rail exclusively for the past six years, we know there is a real opportunity for rail to be sold online and we know that customers are happy to buy their travel online. Currently only 20% of rail tickets are sold online, as opposed to 80% of air. Clearly the opportunity for growth is huge, and we are delighted we are on this growth path with a partner like Expedia.
This is undoubtedly one of the most significant partnerships we have signed to date. We are bringing rail to the world’s largest travel ecommerce platform, and we, together with Expedia, look forward to selling you a rail ticket (not matter where you are, or where you want to go!) in 2016.
